CRUCIAL INFORMATION FOR FISHERMEN

Dear fisherman,

Here we have collected some important information for fishermen, and please, share it with your companions. We will add if some important information rises and we will be happy if you can help with that.

If you have rented a motorboat from us. the rental contract is now to be filled ONLINE only, you can fill out the rental contract HERE.

We assume that you have obtained a personal fishing permit.

MERIKOIVULA’S RULES OF RESPONSIBLE FISHING

• Fishing is generally done on a Catch & Release basis.
• One fisherman can bring ashore up to two pikes a day.
• An injured fish (e.g., the hook injures gills and blood is out) can be brought ashore.
• Pike over 3.5 kg must be released.
• The fish is cleaned on a cleaning table at the boat shed or on a cleaning table at the
barbecue house.
• The fish waste is placed in a fish box and taken to the sea the next time you go fishing.
• You must clean the fish cleaning place

NAVIGATION IN ROCKY SEA

The seabed of our bay is mostly less than 3 meters deep, this is why it’s uncharted, one map also shows the “stone experience” of the owner. Please, use the Google Maps satellite view to estimate depth and follow the in-out directions shown on the map.

In the spring, it’s good to monitor the ice conditions, and the Sentinel Hub is a suitable tool for that. If it doesn’t open in the right place, put our address: Koivulantie 198, 23450 Uusikaupunki, Finland. The Tuna boats are equipped with a GARMIN ECHOMAP™ UHD 62cv GPS unit; please set the language to English after use. If echo is not displaying data, check that the transducer mounted on the stern is positioned horizontally.

WHERE IS THE FISH?

In the last hand only fish knows it, but to make your life easier, the editors of the Estonian “Kalastaja”(Fisherman) magazine have visited us a couple of times, and we are happy to share with you the result of it as the coordinates of the perch spots:

RESPECT LOCAL COMMUNITY

When fishing, you are asked to also consider other inhabitants of the archipelago and respect their privacy and avoid going too close to the shore near settlements. A general gentleman’s rule is to keep a distance of 100 meters from e.g. the pier, cottage beach, etc. You shouldn’t go to someone else’s property along the land either.

USE OF LIFEJACKETS (NEW!)

We have reorganized the storage and drying of life jackets. The idea is to protect them from mold that occurs when stored wet. There are drying cabinets in the villas, and there are also eight hooks on the terrace beam where you can hang them to air out until the next day.

Please take the life jackets from the red storage building at the village gate, enter through the door indicated by the arrow. And please return them there.

LEAVING YOUR BOAT

Never left your boat tied like at the upper photos! Boat should be attached to the floating dock from 4 points (Tuna) or 3 points (Kasse and rowing boats). Please return your boat to the place marked with your boat number like shown at example photo KASSE5.

Attaching your own boat. If you have booked the dock place, you can to attach your boat at the boathouse bridge and at the dock places which does not have the letters TUNA or KASSE with the MeriKoivula boat numbers.

Untie the ends from the spring carabiner on the buoy and dock side, do not untie the knots on the boat. The ends are sized for the boat and mixing them up creates a risk of breakage. And if someone misplaces the boat, you will miss the ends to attach the boat with.

REFUELING

Take a spare canister from the boathouse and at the end of the trip, please refuel the boat from it and raise the engine to the upper position, i.e. the propeller out of the water. Please bring a spare canister to the boathouse to be filled for the next day.

 

Upon arrival at the port at the end of the rental period, please send an SMS to +358440872875 including the boat number, arrival time, refueled (or not) and boat condition.

Dear fishermen,

Please put your fish scraps in a black plastic box and throw them back into the sea at least 50 meters from the pier. If the motorboat rental contract has ended, use a rowing boat.

Please ensure that the cutting boards, cleaning tables, boxes and the floor of the cleaning area remain clean for the next users.
